Embracing an Eco-Friendly Lifestyle as a Whole Family
I’m an artist, a teacher and an eco-conscious mom who loves promoting a meaningful and healthy lifestyle living keen, clean and green! That’s the superwoman in me affecting changes and creating awareness.
I’m from San Francisco and we are one of the leading states when it comes to green living and recycling. I live a mere block away from the ocean and that gives me and my family a greater appreciation for this blue planet.
I have exposed my two kids, even at an early age, in the importance of recycling as well as teaching them the value of giving respect and showing gratitude to our environment. And as always, the best way to do that is to live by example.
It is important that we educate our children about the impact of our actions concerning trash management not just to other people but to animals and other living things as well. We have to teach them to learn to live and co-exist respectfully with these creatures; after all we are indeed inter-connected.
In order to successfully live or transition to a greener eco-friendly lifestyle, it’s important that you support and provide the platforms to make such choices possible. For example, it’s not enough that you teach the family members the importance of segregating trash; you have to make it possible for them to actually practice that. You need to make available of areas in or around the house, trash bins or perhaps baskets, where they can actually do the segregation. Children are normally very curious and oftentimes readily accept the idea of recycling that’s why it’s important that you follow through. You’ll be surprised at how they can easily get the hang of segregating trash and recyclables.
It is ideal that we can embrace the habit of reusing or repurposing items and introducing it back into our everyday life. And it will be great if we can also get into composting. But of course we can’t keep all of our trash even with our recycling efforts; some of it will have to end up in landfills. But our efforts to manage the trash that our own family produces will significantly save landfill spaces and of course will tremendously help our planet. It is important that you know where to bring your recyclables or the schedule of curb side pick-up in your community. You can also opt to donate to schools or other organization items or scraps that can be used in arts and crafts projects.
Educating the children, raising awareness among them, and instilling values about respect and gratitude for the planet will not only empower our youths but save our environment as well. By doing so, we can expect a better, happier and brighter future for them.
