Meditation: Natural Healing

Oftentimes, our body and mind eventually give in to all the everyday stress that we started to feel the heaviness - physically, mentally and emotionally.  And of course we all hate that feeling.  You’ll be surprised at how even a brief meditation can do so much for you.  Meditation is definitely a great way to clear our minds, relieve us of stress and ease some chronic pains that you may be experiencing.

Meditation 101

Before you start to condition your mind into surrendering in a meditative state here are three basic considerations that can help you prepare for meditation:

Find a quiet place – If you can, it’s ideal to choose a room that has an ocean view, or view of the nature like mountains or fields. But of course, the reality is that most of us may not have such luck.  Probably for many people out there having an empty and spare room is already a luxury in itself.  If you do happen to have an extra room for your meditation, have it painted with colors that suggest relaxation (like lavender, sky blue, or green).  You can also opt to have even just a small space or area; just make sure that it’s the quietest place in the house.

Nothing too fancy but some props will be great – Keep in mind that we don’t want clutter, in fact you basically just need something you can sit on, it could be a mat, a rug, or a cushion.  You just need simple meditation pillows or mat to avoid strain on your back, remember that you’ll be sitting in a position for an extended period of time.  You can also add plants, or table top water fountain, the sound of rushing water will help you relax. You can also use meditation music so you can relax more easily.  You can also try using incense or scented candles and see if that relaxes you better – for some people, starting at the candle’s flame helps them to focus their mind in the present.

Getting yourself ready – Before meditation make sure that it is that time of the day where you are most unlikely to be disturbed.  It is ideal to meditate before a meal rather than after because we tend to doze off whenever we’re full.  On the other hand, meditating when you’re hungry is not a sound idea either since it will be harder to concentrate in meditation when our mind is actually thinking about food.  As to your clothing, it doesn’t necessary have to be lose fitting, you just have to make sure that it doesn’t restraint your movements or your breathing when you start on your meditation.

Don’t under-estimate the power of even a 3-minute meditation in your life.  It has been proven how just minutes of stillness could actually calm us down, make us think differently and let us see more clearly. Feel relaxed physiologically, psychologically, and even spirituality – with meditation.
